Police have registered a case in the alleged kidnapping of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javaid, who was reportedly abducted by unknown individuals late at night in Peshawar.
The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident.
FIR filed after late-night incident
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complaint was lodged by Advocate Hira Babar, who was accompanying Sanam Javaid at the time of the incident.
The FIR states that at around 10:40pm, a green car suddenly stopped in front of their vehicle, forcing them to halt. Soon after, another car approached from behind, blocking their way. Several unidentified men exited the vehicles and forcibly took Sanam Javaid away.
Police confirm case registration
Confirming the development, Peshawar SSP (Operations) Masood Bangash said a case has been registered and every aspect of the incident is being thoroughly examined. “A full investigation is underway to trace those involved and determine the motive behind the abduction,” the SSP stated.

He added that police teams are reviewing evidence, including surveillance footage, and efforts are ongoing to recover the PTI leader.
CM orders transparent investigation
The spokesperson for the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said the CM has taken notice of the alleged kidnapping and ordered a complete and impartial inquiry into the matter. “Legal action has been initiated to arrest those responsible for the kidnapping of Sanam Javaid,” the spokesperson confirmed.
Late last night, PTI leader Sheikh Waqas Akram posted on his official X account that the PTI social media activist was dragged out of her vehicle and placed into another car against her will. He claimed the incident unfolded in full public view, leaving her companions shocked.
