The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially extended the deadline for filing income tax returns till October 15, 2025.
According to FBR, the extension has been granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, allowing taxpayers more time to fulfill their obligations.
The decision comes after requests from trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the general public, who had urged the tax authority to provide additional time due to various challenges faced during the filing process.

With this extension, taxpayers who have not yet filed their returns have been urged to complete the process at the earliest to avoid last-minute rush and potential penalties.
The FBR has also advised citizens to make use of its online filing system (IRIS portal) to ensure a smooth and timely submission of returns.

FBR calls for honest declarations
In a public advisory, FBR emphasised the importance of filing returns truthfully. “Submit your income tax correctly and honestly,” the revenue body said.
New simplified return form introduced
To make the process easier, FBR also rolled out a new simplified tax return form. The updated format is aimed at reducing complications for filers and encouraging more people to join the tax net.
