Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal accused on Sunday Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of causing widespread devastation through divisive politics and unilateral actions.
Addressing a ceremony for flood relief distribution, Iqbal said that the government was using all available resources to assist those affected by the floods. He urged flood victims not to feel abandoned, adding that the nation had always faced crises with courage.
He criticised certain groups for distributing rations in a few villages for political motives. The minister said that had the Indus Waters Treaty been respected, the damage from recent flooding would have been less severe. He accused India of blocking river water, which resulted in flooding in eastern Punjab and damage to headworks within India itself.
He added that India had released water in the form of surges towards Pakistan, instead of allowing normal flow. According to him, if water had been released in a regulated manner, the resulting floods would have remained at a lower level.
