The death toll from this year’s floods and rain has reached 910, according to a report issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The report confirmed that three more people lost their lives in the past 24 hours. Two of the deceased were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one from Punjab. The victims belonged to Malakand, Buner and Mandi Bahauddin.
Since June 26, a total of 910 fatalities and 1,044 injuries have been recorded across the country. Among the deaths, 442 resulted from flooding, 252 from collapsed structures, and 65 from drowning.
According to the NDMA, 25 people died in landslides, 23 from electric shocks, and 26 from lightning strikes.
The highest number of fatalities was reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 504 deaths, followed by Punjab with 234. In Sindh, 58 people died, while Balochistan recorded 26 deaths. Gilgit-Baltistan reported 41, Azad Kashmir 38, and Islamabad 9.
Injuries reported include 654 in Punjab, 218 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 78 in Sindh. Balochistan recorded 5 injuries, Gilgit-Baltistan 52, Azad Kashmir 34, and Islamabad 3.
So far, 7,850 houses have been damaged by the rains and flooding. Of these, 1,945 houses were completely destroyed, while 5,905 sustained partial damage. The monsoon has also caused the death of 6,180 livestock.
Separately, the NDMA warned that a rain-bearing system currently over the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan may affect Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
The NDMA spokesperson said that these rains could continue intermittently until September 10. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Koh-e-Suleiman and parts of southern Punjab. Urban flooding may occur in some areas of Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab.
