Internet users across Pakistan are experiencing slower connectivity after a fault was reported in submarine internet cables near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed on Saturday.
According to a PTCL spokesperson, the fault has partially affected the SMW4 (South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4) and IMEWE (India–Middle East–Western Europe) cable systems. The disruption is expected to cause a slight reduction in service quality during peak usage hours.
Steps taken by PTCL
PTCL said its international partners are working to resolve the issue on a priority basis, while the company’s local teams are arranging alternative bandwidth to keep internet services running smoothly across the country.
“We are grateful to our customers for their patience. Efforts are being made to minimize the impact of the submarine cable fault,” a PTCL Group spokesperson said.
So far, internet users have reported slower browsing and streaming speeds, particularly in the evening when demand is high. The company has assured that services will stabilize once the repair work on the damaged cable is completed.
