Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has added two new Aframax tankers to its fleet, increasing the number of vessels from 10 to 12.
The corporation has set a target to expand the fleet to 20 ships by the end of this year.
The newly inducted Aframax tankers will play a key role in transporting petroleum products.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the expansion of the national fleet is an important step toward ensuring energy security.
He added that reducing dependence on foreign shipping will help save foreign exchange, as Pakistan currently pays 4.6 billion dollars annually to foreign shipping companies in freight charges.
The new ships are expected to support the country in handling its growing energy imports.
