Moderate earthquake tremors were felt in several cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as the capital city of Islamabad on Wednesday evening, creating panic among residents who rushed out of homes and shops for safety.
Areas affected
According to reports, tremors were strongly felt in Islamabad, as well as Peshawar, Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat and adjoining areas. Local residents described the shaking as brief but noticeable, prompting precautionary evacuations in some towns.
The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 5.3 on the Richter scale with a depth of 110km. The epicentre of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush mountain range.
No losses reported yet
So far, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage from the affected districts. Authorities have confirmed they are monitoring the situation closely.
