Security forces have intensified counterterrorism efforts in Upper Dir, where a three-day joint operation has left nine terrorists dead, including a key local commander.
The operation, launched on confirmed intelligence, also resulted in the recovery of five bodies and the seizure of multiple militant hideouts.
Key terrorist commander killed
According to Upper Dir SSP Syed Muhammad Bilal, police, CTD, Elite Force, and the Rapid Response Force jointly carried out the targeted operation in the difficult terrain of Hatan Darra. During a search, the body of Sajidullah, a notorious local commander of Fitna al-Khawarij, was found among the slain militants. He was wanted in several terrorism-related cases.
Heavy casualties among security forces
The exchange of fire left 10 personnel from police and CTD injured, though officials confirmed their condition is now out of danger. Despite the challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain, the operation succeeded in dismantling multiple terrorist hideouts.
Civilian sacrifices honoured
Tragically, two civilians were martyred during the clashes. SSP Bilal described them as “our heroes,” adding that authorities are in contact with their families and the provincial government has pledged full support and assistance.
Operation continues amid difficult conditions
Officials confirmed that the search operation is still underway to eliminate remaining threats. Heavy rainfall and tough mountain terrain have slowed progress, but forces remain determined to restore peace in the region.
