Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has vowed that the provincial government will fully compensate all losses caused by the recent floods.
On Sunday, CM Gandapur chaired a meeting in Swat to review the flood situation. The session included provincial cabinet members, the Chief Secretary and senior officials. They received a detailed report on the extent of the damage, as well as rescue and relief operations.
The briefing revealed that Mingora city in Swat district suffered the greatest impact. Relief efforts continue vigorously in affected areas, led by relevant departments and the district administration. A survey of flood-damaged public infrastructure and private property is underway.
CM Gandapur instructed authorities to deploy machinery from other districts to clear debris in Swat and to complete a thorough survey for the restoration of both government and private infrastructure without delay.
The chief minister made it clear that the provincial government has released three billion rupees for the Communication and Relief and Rehabilitation Departments. He ordered that food, medicines and other essential supplies remain available at all times for flood victims.
He said that his administration would honour all commitments. Funds for compensating flood victims will be provided as a priority.
Gandapur assured that the government will not abandon the victims in this hour of hardship.
He announced the formation of a committee led by the deputy commissioner to demarcate the watercourse of the Swat River. The committee will consult elected representatives and use revenue records to determine the boundaries.
The chief minister also called on elected officials to hold consultations on the proposal to divide Swat into two districts and submit their recommendations to the provincial government.
