At 14 years and 69 days old, a charming Easter Egger chicken named Pearl has clucked her way into the Guinness World Records as the oldest living chicken, delighting pet lovers around the globe.
Pearl’s owner, Sonya Hill, hatched her on March 13, 2011, in a personal incubator. While Easter Eggers typically live between five and eight years, Pearl has nearly doubled that average, proving she’s no ordinary bird.

“She’s part of the family,” Hill said, explaining how Pearl enjoys a quiet life indoors. Age has slowed her down, but she still wanders into the living room whenever the TV is on, as if ready to watch her favorite show.
A cozy home with furry friends
Pearl shares her home with an elderly cat and a newborn kitten. According to Hill, the kitten sometimes snuggles next to Pearl — a companionship the chicken seems to enjoy.

Despite her age, Pearl still lays the occasional egg, including one shortly after receiving her Guinness certificate.

Breaking the previous record
The previous record holder, Peanut from Illinois, lived to the remarkable age of 21 years and 238 days before passing away in December 2023. While Pearl’s record doesn’t surpass Peanut’s all-time mark, it secures her place as the current living champion.
More than just a record
For Hill, Pearl’s story is more than a Guinness entry — it’s a testament to the bond between humans and their pets. “She’s been with me through so much. She’s family,” Hill shared.
With her gentle demeanor and unexpected longevity, Pearl has become an inspiration, proving that love, care, and maybe a bit of luck can lead to extraordinary milestones.
