A significant breakthrough has been made in the shocking murder case of a girl named Sidra, who was allegedly killed on the orders of a tribal jirga in Rawalpindi. Police have identified three key suspects — the girl's father, father-in-law, and uncle — who allegedly killed her in the name of honor.
According to investigators, Sidra was suffocated with a pillow inside the house of her uncle, Mani Gul, with the help of her father Arab Gul and her father-in-law Saleh alias Saleem, who is also her paternal uncle. All three are biological brothers.
Police have recovered key evidence from the crime scene, including the pillow and bed sheet used in the murder, along with items used for the ritual washing of the body. CCTV footage has also emerged, showing the girl's body being transported to the graveyard in a loader rickshaw. Ten people were seen unloading the body for burial.
Police sources revealed that Sidra was killed inside a room in front of community members after a jirga’s decision.
The jirga was led by a man named Ismatullah at his own residence. Fourteen people, including men and women, were involved in the planning and execution of the murder. So far, six have been arrested while eight remain at large.
Following confessions from the arrested suspects, police have launched a search operation to arrest the women who helped bathe the body before burial.
A four-member legal team, headed by the district public prosecutor, has been formed to assist investigators with legal procedures, evidence review, and case follow-up.
