The fifth spell of the monsoon season, which was originally expected to conclude by July 31, has been extended due to persistent weather activity across several regions, according to the Meteorological Department.
Meanwhile, a sixth monsoon spell is forecast to begin from August 5 and continue until August 9.
Speaking to Samaa TV, Meteorology Deputy Director Atif Irshad said the ongoing rainfall is a result of dynamic weather systems interacting with the prevailing moisture in the atmosphere. “There has been significant progress in the overall weather pattern, which has led to the extension of the fifth spell,” he explained.
The Met Office has also predicted more rain in the next 24 hours, with moderate to heavy showers expected in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan. Lahore and other upper parts of the country may continue to experience scattered rainfall.

Meteorological officials say the continued flow of rivers, particularly with increased water levels due to rainfall in upper catchments, is playing a key role in sustaining the weather systems.
A PDMA spokesperson had earlier stated that a low-level flood has been recorded at Marala on the Chenab River, while similar low-level flooding is being observed at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa along the Indus River. Water flow in the Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers remains normal.
The authority also confirmed that the water levels in streams and tributaries connected to major rivers are at a normal level. Tarbela Dam is currently 88% full, while Mangla Dam has reached 58% capacity.
In the past 24 hours, rain was recorded in Layyah, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Narowal, Bhakkar, Kasur, and Sialkot, leading to a drop in temperatures and pleasant weather.
