An Argentine police officer was found guilty on Monday of abuse of authority after allowing four detainees to leave a holding cell to serve at his wedding.
The incident took place last year, when the officer released the men from custody to walk to and from a wedding venue located about a block from the police station, according to local media.
One of the detainees reportedly prepared the lamb for the event. It remains unclear what charges the men faced or whether they had been convicted.
Following the reception, the men returned voluntarily to the holding cell, El Diario de La Pampa reported.
“He was fortunate none of them escaped,” prosecutor Guillermo Sancho said.
The officer received a suspended prison sentence of 15 months for abuse of office.
