The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police jointly carried out an intelligence-based operation in Barikot, Swat, killing three terrorists belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation was launched on credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists -- dubbed the Fitnaul Khawarij -- in the area. During the operation, the militants opened fire on the security personnel, prompting a retaliatory response in which all three terrorists were killed.
Among the dead was Ajmal alias Waqas, a most-wanted terrorist with a bounty of Rs2 million on his head. He was involved in multiple terrorist incidents, including attacks on police and security forces. The government had declared him a high-value target due to his role in subversive activities.
The identities of the other two terrorists have not been officially released, but the CTD confirmed they were also involved in several terrorism-related cases.
Speaking to the media, Swat DPO Omar Khan Gandapur said: “The terrorists opened fire on our forces, and were neutralized in the exchange. All three were involved in serious crimes. The KP Police is fully active and committed to further operations.”
He added that the police and security agencies are determined to protect the lives and property of the people and will continue playing their role in the complete eradication of terrorism from the region.
