The presence of birds near Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport has raised serious safety concerns for ongoing flight operations, prompting the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) to issue a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
According to the notification, increased bird activity poses a potential threat to aircraft during take-off and landing, which are considered the most critical phases of flight. The PAA has advised all pilots to exercise extreme caution while operating in and out of Lahore airspace.
As part of the precautionary measures, airlines have been instructed to ensure adequate fuel reserves in their aircraft. This additional fuel is meant to accommodate possible delays or diversions in case of bird-related hazards during approach or departure.
Authorities are also expected to enhance coordination with wildlife control teams to mitigate the risk of bird strikes, which can cause serious damage to aircraft engines and compromise passenger safety.
