The government has decided to integrate the production of medical devices into the "Uraan Pakistan" programme.
According to details surfaced on Wednesday, the registration and licensing of medical devices will also be made available online, in line with broader digitisation efforts. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was set to inaugurate the digitalisation of pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical devices.
This digital shift is expected to directly boost foreign investment in the sector.
Local production of medical devices is nearly negligible, with approximately 90% of all devices being imported.
Billions of rupees were spent annually on importing stents, pacemakers, diagnostic kits, and other essential devices.
