The son of renowned Pakistani poet Shakir Shujaabadi was allegedly tortured by his in-laws in Multan, leaving him seriously injured and requiring hospitalization, police confirmed on Monday.
According to authorities, Waleed Shakir had visited his in-laws' residence in an effort to reconcile with his estranged wife. However, the visit reportedly turned violent. Police say Waleed was physically assaulted by his father-in-law, Habibur Rehman, and another individual identified as Ajmal.
“Waleed Shakir was shifted to the hospital in an injured condition,” said a police official, adding that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
A police spokesperson stated that efforts are being made to arrest the suspects involved and bring them to justice. “The accused will be arrested soon,” the spokesperson assured.
