Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan has submitted a disqualification reference to the Election Commission against 26 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), sources confirmed.
According to reports, the reference was officially filed by Malik Ahmed Khan himself at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The development comes after the opposition members created chaos and resorted to vandalism during the Punjab Assembly session on June 27.
Following the incident, the Speaker had suspended the membership of the 26 opposition lawmakers involved. On June 28, Malik Ahmed Khan announced his decision to forward a disqualification reference to the Election Commission against the suspended members, a step that has now been formally executed.
