A 23-year-old resident of Orangi Town has died after contracting the brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri.
According to the deceased’s family, he developed a fever on May 28 and was initially taken to a private hospital on May 30. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to another private hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 1.
The patient was placed on a ventilator but succumbed to the infection.
It is pertinent to note that this marked the second fatality from the infection in Sindh this year, the Sindh health department has confirmed.
