The reference was sent to the ECP by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, and was originally filed by PML-N candidate Babar Nawaz Khan from NA-18 Haripur. It invokes Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, which pertain to the qualifications and disqualifications for membership of Parliament.
Further proceedings will determine whether Omar Ayub can continue as a member of the National Assembly and as opposition leader.
