Authorities in Swat have imposed a 30-day ban on the use of drones, citing security threats and concerns over regional rivalries, according to a notification issued by District Magistrate Shahzad Mehboob.
The ban, which comes into immediate effect, was introduced as a preventive measure to maintain public order and protect sensitive installations in the region.
“In view of prevailing regional enmity and potential threats to public safety, the use of drones has been declared a serious security concern,” the district magistrate said in a statement on Monday.
The official order emphasizes that unauthorized drone activity will be treated as a serious offence, with violators facing strict action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant.
“Ensuring the security of the public and key infrastructure is our top priority. The illegal use of drones will not be tolerated and will now be considered a serious crime,” he said.
