Authorities in Karachi and Quetta have announced a major reduction in the prices of naan, roti, and chapati, following public concerns and high flour prices.
In Quetta, the price of roti has been reduced by Rs10. A 360-gram roti will now cost Rs30. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those selling bread at inflated prices.
Meanwhile, in Karachi, the Commissioner has also slashed the prices of naan and chapati following a recent decrease in flour rates. According to an official notification, a 100-gram chapati will now be sold for Rs10, while a 120-gram naan will cost Rs15.
Karachi commissioner stated that any attempt to increase the prices beyond the notified rates will result in strict action. The price of a 150-gram naan has been fixed at Rs17. Citizens are encouraged to report any violations, which will not be tolerated.
According to Hassan Naqvi, the maximum price of a 180-gram naan is Rs22. He added that exceeding official rates is a punishable offense. All shops are required to prominently display the government-issued price list, and immediate action will be taken against violators. A control room has also been established to monitor compliance with the new bread prices.
It is worth noting that just a day earlier, the Karachi Commissioner had issued a notification reducing flour prices after a gap of one and a half months. The prices were slashed by Rs10 to Rs17 per kilogram.
According to the new notification, No. 2.5 flour will now be sold at Rs83 per kg wholesale and Rs87 per kg retail. Fine flour has been set at Rs88 per kg wholesale and Rs92 per kg retail, while chakki (stone-milled) flour is priced at Rs100 per kg.
However, in the open market, fine flour is being sold between Rs90 and Rs100 per kg, and chakki flour is priced between Rs110 and Rs115 per kg.
