Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, Federal Minister for Water Resources Khalid Magsi, and Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal held a joint press conference to shed light on the province’s development projects, political rights, and ongoing efforts to address public grievances.
Highlighting the long-delayed Kachhi Canal project, CM Sarfaraz Bugti revealed that despite being initiated 24 years ago, the project remains incomplete. However, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for prioritizing the canal’s second phase, which is now moving toward completion.
"The prime minister has allocated funds from petroleum savings for crucial infrastructure projects in Balochistan, including highways and the Kachhi Canal," said Bugti.
Bugti stated that Pakistan's enemies knew that Balochistan's stability was vital for Pakistan's development. He emphasized the importance of law and order and said that those protesting on the streets will soon understand the changing dynamics of governance.
"The people of Balochistan have full political rights and the right to vote. Everyone can protest, but it is the government's right to decide where these protests take place," he added. "The government has the right to tell you where to protest. If a matter is in the court, let the court decide it," he stressed, adding that the courts will decide the case of activist Mahrang Baloch.
Bugti also addressed concerns about the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), revealing that the province has reached an 80% utilization rate for the first time in history.
Federal Minister Khalid Magsi echoed these sentiments and praised the federal government’s support for Balochistan.
"The people of Pakistan have gifted over a billion dollars to Balochistan through development initiatives. With the completion of the Kachhi Canal, nearly 700,000 acres of land will become cultivable," Magsi stated.
He also thanked the prime minister for approving the N-25 highway project, which will enhance connectivity across the province.
"The state cannot compromise on its interests. It operates within the constitutional framework," Magsi remarked, confirming that CM Bugti remained in constant contact with BNP leader Akhtar Mengal during recent negotiations, which led to the peaceful end of a protest sit-in.
Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal underscored the federal and provincial government’s united commitment to uplift Balochistan. He said that the development of the province is causing concern for certain elements who wish to halt progress.
"Enemies of Pakistan do not want Balochistan’s mineral wealth to be integrated into the national economy. But we must give our people a vision for the future," Kamal stressed.
He also highlighted an important green initiative spearheaded by the provincial government — the installation of solar-powered tube wells. The provincial government is covering 30% of the costs, while the federal government is providing the remaining funding.
"Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has always prioritized Balochistan. Today, the government, the Pakistan Army, and civil society are all aligned in the mission to develop this province," Jam Kamal said.
