The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday granted protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Omer Ayub and Faisal Amin until December 19, leading them to avoid arrest in any registered cases until that date.
Justice Waqar Ahmed presided over the hearing, and remarked that the petitioners should approach the relevant court in the cases they are aware of. "We grant you protective bail. You should approach the relevant court again," the judge said.
The court noted that the petitioner was a member of the Judicial Commission, ordering the federal government and relevant institutions to gather details related to the cases against the petitioner.
Omer Ayub told the court that the federation is requested not to file cases of motorcycle theft against them. "FIRs are being registered every 10 minutes," said the petitioner's lawyer.
Ayub further alleged in the court that he was directly fired at during the PTI's recent protest march in Islamabad, which injured him. "Now an FIRs is also registered against me," he lamented, seeking more time for the petitioners to appear before the relevant authorities.
The opposition leader in the National Assembly claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had said everywhere that no one would enter the Red Zone. "We were fired at everywhere. I was attacked," he alleged, holding the prime minister, the Punjab chief minister and Islamabad police chief responsible for the attacks.
He further claimed bogus cases were being instituted against PTI leaders and appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to form a fact-finding committee on the issue. "The committee should see how all this happened during the protest. Our protest was peaceful, yet obstacles were placed before us," he maintained.
