Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur convened on Thursday a meeting of provincial assembly members from both government and opposition parties to address escalating tensions in Khyber District.
The gathering, which took place under the watchful eye of Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, saw the participation of parliamentary leaders and members from various factions.
During the assembly session, a unanimous resolution was passed regarding the recent controversial events surrounding the Pashtun Protection Movement (PTM), particularly after the federal government's declaration of the movement as a banned organisation. In response to these developments, a committee comprising both government and opposition members was formed to explore peaceful solutions to the rising tensions.
Chief Minister Gandapur expressed gratitude to all assembly members for their commitment to addressing the issue, stating, "It is our responsibility to ensure the safety of our people and their property within the province. The formation of this committee reflects our collective will to find a resolution."
Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that the provincial government has reached out to federal authorities, who have welcomed this initiative. The federal Minister of Interior is expected to visit Peshawar for a crucial meeting to discuss the matter further.
A significant assembly meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at the Chief Minister’s House, where leaders from all political parties will be invited to collaborate on ensuring peace and stability in the region. Gandapur concluded with a hopeful message, emphasising the need for unity: "I am confident that together we will find a peaceful way forward. Our intentions are sincere, and we seek divine assistance in resolving these issues."
In a show of solidarity, the Chief Minister thanked all parliamentarians for recognising the seriousness of the situation and for their ongoing support in navigating these challenging times.
