The federal government established on Sunday a three-member committee to investigate the use of resources and personnel by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in support of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests.
This decision follows concerns regarding the allocation of public resources for political demonstrations. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the committee is tasked with determining the involvement of government resources and personnel during PTI’s rallies. The committee is directed to submit its report within seven days, identifying the planners and responsible officials behind this allocation.
The committee will be headed by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Riffat Mukhtar. It will also include the Additional Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Munir Masood Marth, and an officer from the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Along with the committee's formation, the Ministry has outlined operational guidelines for the inquiry.
The notification specifies that the committee will investigate critical questions, including: "How many government vehicles and employees were utilized in the PTI rally? Who authorized the use of KP’s governmental resources? Which authorized officer permitted the use of these resources for the rally?"
