In a dedicated search and recovery operation on Broad Peak, rescue teams supported by the Pakistan Army have successfully located and identified the body of renowned Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi.
Hailing from the Hunza Valley, Sakhi went missing alongside a group of climbers following a devastating avalanche that struck the mountain on July 31.
Following days of intensive efforts in high-altitude conditions, search teams on the mountain identified the remains of Sohail Sakhi.
The Pakistan Army, through its Army Aviation wing, is coordinating the airlift operations. An Army Aviation helicopter will transport the body of the late mountaineer directly from Broad Peak to Skardu for official handoff and final rites.
July 31 Cobra Peak avalanche
The tragedy unfolded on July 31 when a sudden, massive avalanche hit the mountain slopes near Cobra Peak.

A total of 10 mountaineers -- comprising nine foreign climbers and one Pakistani climber, Sohail Sakhi -- went missing immediately after the impact. The high altitude and harsh weather hindered early contact, prompting a large-scale international and military rescue effort.
Recovery and repatriation status
Search and recovery teams have worked tirelessly across the treacherous terrain to locate the missing members of the expedition.
Out of the 10 climbers involved in the tragic accident, rescue personnel have recovered and retrieved the bodies of seven foreign climbers. Those seven bodies have already been safely transferred and repatriated back to their respective homelands following official clearance procedures.
