At a time when criticism of artificial intelligence and protests over data centres are making headlines, Anthropic has introduced a new feature for Claude that highlights how people use the chatbot in their daily lives.
According to TechCrunch, the company on Thursday launched Reflect, a built-in dashboard that allows users to track and view their use of Claude and their wider AI habits. The feature provides information about the topics users discuss, their overall usage patterns and the types of tasks for which they seek AI assistance.
Reflect also aims to shape how users think about AI. It presents Claude as a productivity tool that forms part of everyday work while encouraging thoughtful and balanced use.
Although Claude Reflect does not estimate how much time users have saved by using AI instead of carrying out tasks manually, it gives them an overview of the work completed with Claude. This may reinforce its role as a regular part of their daily routine.
Reflect also asks users occasional questions, such as: "What's one thing you want to keep doing yourself, even if Claude could do it faster?" The prompts are intended to encourage people to think about how they use AI.
Anthropic said the feature also includes options to set quiet hours or reminders to take a break from AI. The company said this recognises that AI chatbots can encourage lengthy and continuous conversations.
The idea of using analytics to influence how people view a product is not new.
In 2012, Google introduced Gmail Meter, a tool that analysed users' inboxes and displayed email traffic, categories and storage information through charts and statistics. The feature also illustrated how central Gmail had become to many people's digital lives.
Claude Reflect follows a similar approach while also offering guidance on how users can make better use of AI.
For example, Reflect may suggest using Claude's Projects feature instead of repeatedly explaining the same work context. Anthropic said this can help users organise their work more efficiently while making Claude a more integrated part of their daily workflow.
The company said some sensitive conversations may appear in Reflect only in general terms, while conversations linked to health integration tools are excluded from insights. Anthropic also said the information shown in Reflect is not used for other purposes.
Claude Reflect is available in beta for Free, Pro and Max users who have memory switched on. Anthropic said the feature will later include a view showing how much time users have spent using Claude.
