Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that Pakistan was honoured to serve as a mediator in efforts aimed at easing tensions and reaching understanding between the United States and Iran.
In remarks given to TRT World, PM Shehbaz said that while the assignment was noble in purpose, it remained highly complex and demanding. He said: "Pakistan, due to its geographical proximity with Iran, dealt with all parties with sincerity and caution in order to avoid any misstep."

He said that “matters have proceeded well despite major difficulties”, and expressed gratitude to friendly countries that supported the peace process, including Türkiye under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, describing their backing as essential to the progress achieved.
The premier referred to the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Islamabad and the commencement of technical-level discussions between the parties, expressing hope that these steps would lead towards lasting peace.
Field Marshal key in Pakistan contacts with Iranian, US leaderships
He said that from Pakistan’s side, Field Marshal Asim Munir played a key role in maintaining contact with both Iranian and American leaderships, describing his efforts as continuous and persistent despite challenges.
Deputy PM commended for engagement in negotiations
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also commended for his ongoing engagement in supporting the negotiation process.
The prime minister hoped that developments would continue on a positive trajectory towards stability.
