A fire broke out at a cloth warehouse on the fourth floor of a plaza in Lahore's New Azam Cloth Market after a short circuit, rescue officials said.
One dies of suffocation in Lahore cloth warehouse fire
The victim's body was found during a search operation after firefighters brought the blaze under control.
The flames spread rapidly before rescue firefighters brought the blaze under control with the help of a snorkel fire platform.
After the cooling process was completed, rescue teams launched a search operation and found the body of a man inside the warehouse.
Rescue officials identified the deceased as 35-year-old Waseem. They said he died of suffocation caused by smoke inhalation.
The body was handed over to the police for legal formalities.
Rescue 1122 leads major fire operation
Rescue 1122 teams reached the site immediately after receiving information about the incident. The rescue officials said a major operation to extinguish the fire was under way, with seven fire vehicles and two rescue vehicles taking part.
Rescue fleet and 45 personnel deployed in emergency response
Two specialised rescue vehicles, one ambulance, two motorbikes and 45 rescue personnel were also engaged in the emergency response.
Rescue spokesperson said District Emergency Officer Dr Rizwan Chaudhry was personally supervising the rescue operation.
Efforts to control the fire and prevent it from spreading further were continuing.
