The Sindh Assembly has passed the budget for financial year 2026–27 by a majority vote. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah presented a budget of Rs 3,652 billion in the House.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah tabled all demands for grants together in the assembly, which were approved by a majority vote. In the supplementary budget, more than 300 amendments were moved on 88 demands for grants.
The opposition moved a cut motion on the demands for grants for the National Games, which was opposed by the chief minister. He stated that the chief guest at the National Games was the Chief of Defence Forces.
Cut motions on National Games and ‘Mera Lyari’ grants rejected
A cut motion on the grant for the film 'Mera Lyari' was also rejected. Murad Ali Shah stated that Sindh was the first province to produce a film, adding that it presented a positive image of the province.
The chief minister stated that no new tax has been imposed in the new budget. The sitting of the Sindh Assembly was later adjourned sine die.
It is noted that salaries and pensions of government employees in Sindh are being increased by 7 per cent, while the minimum wage in the province is being raised from Rs 40,000 to Rs 43,000 per month.
