Iran has called for a clear timeline regarding the withdrawal of Israel from Lebanon.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei told journalists that a clear timeline must be set for the unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese areas.
End of conflict as conditions for lasting agreement
He said the protection of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the end of conflict are essential conditions for a lasting agreement, adding that Iran’s position is based on the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Deal hinges on ending occupation
Baqaei maintained that the United States should take steps to halt Israeli aggressive actions in Lebanon. He maintained that full implementation of any memorandum of understanding, and a durable agreement, depends on ending the Israeli occupation.
'Hormuz to remain under Iran’s oversight for 30 days'
Meanwhile Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iran’s full oversight for the next 30 days, stressing that any unilateral intervention could further delay the reopening of the vital maritime route.
The remarks were made at a joint press conference in Baghdad with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, during which discussions were held on regional security, bilateral relations, and recent developments following the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
