Iran has reportedly introduced a special free 10-day visa facility for Pakistani nationals planning to attend the funeral and mourning ceremonies of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The facility does not allow visa-free entry, meaning Pakistani travellers must still submit an application and receive an approved Iranian visa before departure.
Under the special arrangement, Iran is expected to waive the normal visa fee for eligible Pakistani applicants. However, travellers will not be allowed to enter Iran without prior approval.
Applicants have been advised to wait for their approved visa before purchasing confirmed airline tickets or beginning their journey.
How Pakistanis can apply
Pakistani nationals can submit their visa applications through Iran’s official electronic visa portal.
Applicants should select the “Entry Visa” category and clearly mention that their purpose of travel is to attend the funeral, farewell or mourning ceremonies of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
They must provide accurate and complete information in the online form to avoid delays or rejection.
Required documents for Iran visa
- A copy of CNIC
- Proof of professional or educational status
- Employment card, business card or student identification document
- A recent passport-sized photograph with a white background. The photograph can be taken using a mobile phone, provided it is clear and follows the required format.
- A digital copy of the passport information page. The the passport should remain valid for at least six months.
Travel by air mainly covered
Available reports indicate that the facility is currently intended mainly for people travelling by air. Arrangements for Pakistani travellers planning to enter Iran through the Taftan land border remain unclear.
Some reports also suggest that applicants may need to purchase medical or travel insurance separately, meaning other charges may still apply despite the visa fee waiver.
Applicants urged to verify requirements
The Iranian government has not publicly listed all special requirements for Pakistani applicants on the general guidance pages of its eVisa portal.
Applicants should verify whether documents such as CNIC, visiting card or student card are mandatory in their individual case.
They should also confirm the correct visa category with the Iranian Embassy or an Iranian consulate before submitting their application.
Travellers have been advised to use only the official Iranian eVisa portal and avoid agents offering guaranteed or instant approvals.
Pakistan delegation at funeral
The special visa facility comes as Iran prepares to receive foreign visitors, mourners and official delegations for the funeral and related ceremonies.
Thousands of mourners and delegations from different countries, including Pakistan, are expected to travel to Iran.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been confirmed to be travelling to Iran for the funeral services.
