The government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel after keeping petroleum product prices unchanged.
Petrol levy raised to Rs66.64 per litre
The petroleum levy on high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs6.57 per litre, while the levy on petrol has gone up by Rs0.39 per litre. The petroleum levy on high-speed diesel has been raised from Rs72.97 to Rs79.54 per litre. The levy on petrol has also been increased from Rs66.25 to Rs66.64 per litre.
The government had announced on the previous day that petroleum product prices would remain unchanged.
Global crude nears pre-war levels
Earlier, crude oil prices in the international market fell again, returning close to pre-war levels, but consumers in Pakistan received no relief in petroleum prices.
Despite the decline in global oil prices, petrol will remain at Rs299.50 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs311.47 per litre next week.
Crude oil prices in the international market declined by a further 4.5%. US crude oil fell to $68.65 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped to $71.52 per barrel.
