Despite a significant reduction in petrol and diesel prices, consumers in Karachi say they have not received any relief in the prices of essential food items.
Instead, flour and rice prices have increased, adding to the financial burden on households already struggling with inflation.
The price of a 50-kilogram bag of flour has increased by Rs400, according to market reports from Karachi.
The latest hike has further raised the cost of one of the city's most essential household commodities.
Rice becomes more expensive
Prices of different varieties of rice have also gone up in local markets. Shopkeepers said rice prices have increased by Rs20 to Rs30 per kilogram, depending on the variety.
The increase has affected another staple food item widely consumed by households across the city.
Consumers say relief has not reached
Buyers expressed disappointment that the reduction in petroleum prices has not translated into lower prices for everyday goods. They said instead of becoming cheaper, essential commodities are continuing to become more expensive.
According to the report, petrol and diesel prices have fallen significantly, but consumers believe they have not benefited from the reduction.
Traders and shopkeepers said prices could rise even further in the coming days. They warned that consumers may continue to face higher costs for essential food items despite lower fuel prices.
