West Indies batters Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase set a new Test cricket record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership against Sri Lanka, rewriting several entries in the record books.
Jangoo, Chase set record 401-run sixth-wicket test stand
The pair added 401 runs for the sixth wicket, the highest partnership for the sixth wicket or any lower wicket in Test history. The previous record was the 399-run sixth-wicket stand by England's Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes against South Africa in 2016.
Jangoo and Chase also became only the second pair in Test history to share a partnership of more than 400 runs for the fifth wicket or lower. The first was Australia's Sid Barnes and Don Bradman, who added 405 for the fifth wicket against England in 1946.
Hunte, Sobers 446-run second-wicket stand vs Pakistan
The stand was only the second 400-plus partnership in Test cricket for West Indies. Conrad Hunte and Garry Sobers still hold the West Indies record with a 446-run second-wicket partnership against Pakistan in 1958.
Second 400-plus Test partnership vs Sri Lanka
It was also only the second 400-plus partnership recorded against Sri Lanka in Test cricket. New Zealand's Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones put on 467 runs in 1991.
West Indies declared their first innings on 626 for nine, their highest Test total against Sri Lanka. The previous best was 580 for nine at Galle in 2010.
The innings marked West Indies' first Test total of more than 500 since December 2013 and their first score above 600 since November 2012.
