Qatar has strongly condemned Iran's missile and drone attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as a violation of the sovereignty of both countries and calling for renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
The statement came as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz and urged the United States to ensure all provisions of its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran are implemented.
Qatar condemns Iranian attacks
In a statement, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait constituted "a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the two countries and a flagrant breach of the rules of international law."
The ministry stressed the need to shield the region from the consequences of what it described as unjustified attacks and called for continued dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions.
Qatar also urged all parties to build on the gains achieved through the memorandum of understanding, saying this would help strengthen regional and international security and stability.
The ministry reaffirmed Qatar's "full solidarity" with Bahrain and Kuwait.
Iran reaffirms control over Strait of Hormuz
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz would remain under Iran's full oversight for the next 30 days.
Speaking during a joint press conference in Baghdad with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Araghchi said he had briefed his counterpart on the latest developments following what he described as the war imposed on Iran and the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington.
"The Strait of Hormuz remains under the total oversight and management of Iran through the 30 coming days, and after all obstacles are removed the total capacity of the waterway will be restored. This is what we are working on," he said.
Araghchi added that responsibility for the strategic waterway rests solely with the Islamic Republic of Iran and warned that any unilateral intervention would worsen the situation and delay the reopening of the strait.
The Iranian foreign minister also said all provisions of the memorandum of understanding with the United States must be honoured.
He specifically urged Washington to ensure Israel halts its attacks on Lebanon, saying the agreement should be implemented in its entirety, including the clauses relating to Lebanon.
