Iran’s top joint military command has warned against what it described as Israeli military aircraft approaching Iranian airspace through neighbouring countries, calling the activity a direct threat to the country's national security.
The warning was issued by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which said Iran would not tolerate any threat against its territory and reserved the right to respond to what it called dangerous actions.
In a statement carried by state-run broadcaster IRIB, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the movement and presence of military aircraft belonging to what it described as the “terrorist army of the Zionist regime” in the airspace of neighbouring countries toward Iran was a dangerous act.
The military headquarters said such activity is regarded by the Islamic Republic as a direct threat to Iran’s national security.
The statement, however, did not identify which neighbouring country or countries it was referring to.
Tehran warns of possible response
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that if the United States was unable to restrain or control Israel, Iran would not tolerate any threat against itself. It added that the Islamic Republic considers it its legitimate right to respond to what it described as dangerous actions.
The military command stressed that Iran would never tolerate any threat against its national security.
Warning comes amid regional tensions
The statement comes as regional security tensions remain high and the United States and Iran continue negotiations following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Iranian officials have repeatedly said the country's armed forces remain fully prepared to respond decisively to any threat against Iran’s territorial integrity and national security.
