United States President Donald Trump has said that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wants to be friends with him again, claiming that her popularity in Italy has declined after she turned down the United States.
Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social. He said Meloni repeatedly sought a photograph with him during the G7 meeting in France and claimed that her standing among Italian voters had weakened.
Trump also criticised Italy's refusal to allow the United States to use its landing strips and runways, terming the decision as a logistical inconvenience despite Washington's defence commitments to Italy and other NATO allies.
He maintained: "Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she wants to be friends again in order to get her “numbers up.” No thanks!!! President DJT."
