The Economic Survey for FY2025-26 has been released, showing that total consumption of petroleum products in the country stood at 13.6 million metric tonnes.
The survey recorded a 3.5% increase in petroleum products consumption compared with the previous financial year.
Moreover, the survey stated that the transport sector remained the largest consumer of petroleum products, where consumption recorded an increase of 6.7%. Petroleum products consumption in the transport sector accounted for 82% of total demand.
Official figures showed that petroleum products consumption in the transport sector rose from 10 million metric tonnes to 11.2 million metric tonnes.
Meanwhile, a significant decline was recorded in petroleum products consumption in the industrial sector. According to the Economic Survey, consumption in the industrial sector fell by 42.6%.
Petroleum products consumption in the industrial sector declined from 754,000 metric tonnes to 433,000 metric tonnes, while the sector's share in total demand was recorded at 3.2%.
