The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued on Thursday a weather alert for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country for the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, rain accompanied by thunder is expected in Islamabad and several districts of Punjab.
Similar weather conditions are forecast in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while rain and thunderstorms are also likely in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
The NDMA warned that hailstorms may occur at different locations across the country during this period.
Weak structures and installations may face damage due to hailstorms and strong winds.
The NDMA has also warned of possible glacial lake outburst floods and landslides in northern areas. Rain, flooding and landslides may lead to the closure of link roads in affected regions.
A high risk of landslides has been reported in Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit, Chilas and Astore.
Shigar, Chitral, Kalam, Upper Kohistan and Azad Kashmir also face a severe risk of landslides. Link roads between Shimshal Valley, Attabad Lake and Karimabad have been declared sensitive.
Roads connecting Gulmit, Shishkat Bala and Passu have also been identified as vulnerable. Landslides may block routes on Shigar Road, Skardu Road, Deosai Road and the Karakoram Highway.
The Karakoram Highway, Naran Road and the Jaglot-Skardu Road are among the highways that may face disruption.
Moreover, travel activities may face disruption in parts of Kalam, Kundol, Arang Kel and Dasu. Travel may also be affected in several areas of Patan and Chitral Valley.
