Security forces carried out the operation in the Barakzai area of Bannu after terrorists reportedly opened fire on police personnel.
The clash also led to casualties among the police ranks, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to police officials, the exchange of fire erupted during a joint operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police in Barakzai.
During the operation, one policeman was martyred while four others sustained injuries. The wounded officers were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment shortly after the clash.
Officials said eight terrorists linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Fitna Al-Khawarij were killed in the operation.
Among those killed was Abdullah, described as a key commander of the Fitna Al-Khawaj Garbaz group. Police said Abdullah was wanted in multiple cases, including attacks on police personnel and other serious incidents.
IED defused near mosque
In a separate development, police officials said an improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered near Gul Zaman Mosque on Miran Shah Road within the jurisdiction of Bannu Cantt Police Station.
The bomb disposal squad reached the site and successfully neutralized the explosives before any damage could occur.
According to officials, the explosives had been planted for sabotage purposes. However, timely action by the bomb disposal squad prevented a potentially serious incident in the area.
