The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Wednesday that a National Monsoon Conference had been organised under the directions of the national and military leadership to review preparedness for the coming monsoon season.
According to details, the NDMA spokesperson said there was a strong possibility of severe heatwaves and flood-related threats from June to September across the country.
The spokesperson said risks of glacial lake outburst floods, urban flooding and landslides also remained a concern during the season.
Moreover, The NDMA chairman stated that timely alerts and public awareness were essential for the protection of life and property.
He directed all relevant institutions to ensure coordinated action, immediate response and continuous communication during the monsoon period.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the 2026 monsoon could bring uneven rainfall patterns across the country, the NDMA said.
The spokesperson added that northern areas were likely to receive above-normal rainfall, while plains and southern regions could receive less rainfall than usual.
Despite the early arrival of the monsoon, southern and plain areas may continue to face above-normal temperatures and intense heat, the spokesperson said.
