Opposition parties in the National Assembly have expressed serious concern over the recent increase in petroleum prices, rising inflation and the overall political situation in the country.
The concerns were raised during a parliamentary party meeting chaired by Opposition Leader Mahmood Achakzai at Parliament House.
According to a statement, the meeting reviewed the country’s political situation, parliamentary affairs and a joint strategy for the opposition parties.
Participants strongly criticized the government’s economic policies and demanded immediate relief for the people.
The opposition said the recent hike in petroleum product prices would trigger a fresh wave of inflation. Meeting participants warned that the new inflationary pressure would create more difficulties for the poor class.
The opposition also blamed the government’s poor policies for damaging the agricultural economy. Participants said urgent corrective measures were needed to protect the public and key economic sectors.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s health
The meeting also held consultations on the health and possible hospital transfer of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi. Participants agreed that the political and parliamentary struggle for the release of the PTI founder would continue.
At the end of the meeting, special prayers were offered for the martyrs of Bannu and Maulana Muhammad Idrees.
