United States President Donald Trump has said no final decision has yet been taken on the full restoration of “Project Freedom”, though a wide-ranging revival is under consideration to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
In an interview with a US television channel, he said the plan would not remain limited to the security of vessels passing through the strait and could be expanded in scope.
Speaking on Iran, Trump said Iran would eventually surrender and agree to a deal, while pressure on it would continue until then.
He also claimed Iranian negotiators had sought US assistance in removing enriched uranium, saying they lacked the technical capacity to handle it themselves.
Earlier, he rejected Tehran’s response to a US proposal for ending hostilities, describing it as entirely unacceptable.
According to media reports, Iran has put forward a counterproposal, calling for compensation for wartime losses and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement a day earlier, Trump said Iran had “played games” with the world for 47 years and would no longer be able to do so.
