The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts across the country over rainfall, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF) and an intense heatwave.
According to details surfaced on Monday, the NDMA has said that rain and hailstorms are likely in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours, while thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected in several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The authority warned that incidents of glacial lake outbursts could occur in northern regions between 11 and 17 May 2026. Local residents and tourists have been advised to exercise caution.
Separately, the NDMA also issued a heatwave alert from tomorrow until 18 May for various parts of the country. Severe heat is likely to persist for three to five days in southern and central regions.
The NDMA said lower Sindh, southern Punjab and eastern Balochistan could face the worst of the heat, while Karachi and other parts of Sindh may also come under severe weather conditions. An unusual rise in temperatures has also been forecast in several districts of Balochistan.
The authority warned that the heatwave could lead to an increase in heatstroke cases and other medical complications, while electricity demand and water shortages may also rise.
The NDMA has directed relevant institutions to keep heatwave response plans active, establish cooling centres and ensure the supply of water to residents.
