Strong winds and dust storms swept through Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several other parts of the country, followed by rain in various areas of the twin cities on Sunday evening.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, the change in weather brought relief from the heat. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain from tonight until May 13 (Wednesday).
Rain accompanied by thunder is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Isolated showers may also occur in Islamabad and the Potohar region, while southern districts of Sindh and Balochistan are likely to remain intensely hot.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also forecast rain and hailstorms in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NDMA, rising temperatures may accelerate glacier melting, increasing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have also warned that strong winds and possible hailstorms could damage weak structures, solar panels and vehicles.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution during adverse weather conditions.
