In a major box office moment, Ranveer Singh has entered the record books as Dhurandhar The Revenge overtakes Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
The achievement marks a significant shift in Indian cinema’s all-time earnings chart.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar The Revenge has crossed a historic benchmark after seven weeks in theatres.
On Sunday, the film’s total earnings surpassed the lifetime collection of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which had held its record for nearly a decade.
Crossing the ₹1788 crore benchmark
By Monday morning (May 4), the film’s global gross stood at ₹1789 crore, edging past Baahubali 2’s ₹1788 crore total.
This achievement places Dhurandhar 2 as the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
The film has performed strongly in India, earning ₹1138 crore net (₹1362 crore gross).
Internationally, it has crossed $50 million, despite not releasing in Gulf countries—traditionally a major market for Indian films.
Now in its seventh week, the film’s momentum has begun to slow. Its daily domestic collections have dropped to around ₹1–1.5 crore.
The number of screens has also fallen below 500 as newer releases take over theatres.
Competition impacts performance
The slowdown is partly due to competition from new releases such as Bhooth Bangla and Hollywood titles like Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2.
Audience interest has gradually shifted, impacting footfall in cinemas.
Trade analysts expect the film to cross ₹1800 crore globally but not go significantly beyond that mark.
It is likely to retain its position as the second biggest Indian film until another major release challenges it.
Despite its success, Dangal continues to hold the top position with a worldwide gross of ₹2070 crore.
The record has remained untouched for nearly ten years and remains out of reach for now.
