Islamabad and Rawalpindi received rain in several areas on Saturday, bringing an end to the spell of intense heat.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, light to moderate showers, accompanied by strong winds, were reported in parts of the twin cities during the evening. Following the rainfall, cooler winds led to a noticeable drop in temperature.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an alert for further rain and hailstorms in different parts of the country over the coming days.
According to the NDMA, rain with thunder is expected until 5 May in Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot and Faisalabad, as well as other areas of Punjab. Rain is also expected in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, with a possibility of hail in some locations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Warming due to glacier melt has raised concerns over glacial lake outburst floods, flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions. Heavy rainfall may cause rivers and streams to overflow, resulting in disruption to road access and transport services.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to comply with instructions issued by local authorities.
