Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has apprised the International Cricket Council (ICC) of his position following a positive dope test.
Sources said on Thursday that Nawaz, who is currently representing Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), had submitted a written response to the global cricket body on the matter.
According to sources, the ICC had initiated proceedings in this regard and had sought Nawaz’s explanation. The announcement of any action concerning the player will also be made by the ICC.
It is pertinent to note that it was earlier reported that Nawaz had come under investigation after his dope test returned positive. According to details, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had initiated a formal inquiry after being informed of the matter by the ICC.
Nawaz’s dope test was conducted during the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The PCB will forward the findings of its inquiry to the ICC upon completion.
Meanwhile, English county side Surrey has terminated its contract with the player.
Sources said Nawaz had declined to accept the results of the initial test and had maintained in conversations with close associates that he had not used any prohibited substances.
A second dope test has been conducted as the initial report may have been incorrect. The report of the second test is expected by April 30. Nawaz has remained firm in his position following the emergence of the matter.
